For Hachette Filipacchi Media luminis Software Development developed the Quote Eetgids restaurant guide for the iPhone. Using location based services you can directly see which are the best restaurants selected by Quote in your proximity. The experience with design and implementation of mobile applications on the iPhone made luminis the ideal partner for Quote magazine to launch this initiative on the iPhone.
luminis lent its know-how and support to Nedap in the development of application software for the mobile telephone. As knowledge provider in the area of mobile applications, luminis was the ideal partner for Nedap to expand the iO Concept based on Nokia Near Field Communication (NFC)/RFID technology. See also the press release.
BP - Mobile Pay(2001) BP, Nedap and KPN Mobile have introduced a system at three petrol stations to enable customers to make their fuel purchase quickly and easily using their mobile telephone: Mobile Pay. When the customer pulls in, they call a given number from their vehicle with their mobile telephone. The customer is then requested to enter the pump number and their PIN number on their mobile phone. After verifying the data, a green light on the pump starts to blink, which indicates that the customer can begin fuelling. When finished, the customer simply returns the nozzle to the pump and drives away. As part of this project, luminis created the software architecture and performed the implementation.
Knowledge transfer, training and coaching
Sony Ericsson - Mobile TelephonesFor Sony Ericsson in Emmen, The Netherlands, a training course started in May 2006 on Embedded Java (J2ME) programming. Sony Ericsson focuses on devices related to mobile telephones and would like to start programming applications for them in Java.
Research
Challenges in mobile-application developmentWith an eye towards the challenges in the development in M2M applications on mobile phones, we looked at how best to deal with no guarantee for availability, low bandwidths and limited capacities. To be able to better explain this complexity, a sample application was developed to trigger technical, architectural and visionary ideas. For more information, see luminis mobility.
Enterprise integration from J2MEA study was done to find out which message-based middleware makes it possible to integrate with an enterprise environment in a reliable way, in an unreliable communication environment. Message-Oriented Middleware (MOM) tools were examined, and more specifically IBM Websphere MQ Everyplace, iBus/Mobile and kJoram.
Open Source
Open Source - Apache Felix on Google AndroidOn 27 November 2007, two weeks after the release of the first SDK for Google Android, luminis portedApache Felix , an open source OSGi implementation, to this strong platform, which is similar to Java. The availability of OSGi for this platform makes it possible to easily install and update modular applications. Reactions from the Apache Felix community to this project were very enthusiastic.
